When In Artist Block 2016

I paint with the colour's soul
  giving its deserved voice
I work with ideas
  around memory and chance

My autobiographical work is mainly inspired by the expressionistic in life. The urge to feel something. It is born in the subconscious and reveals itself through art. It is a single moment in time - a celebration of subjective truth.

Lindi Venter obtained her BA Fine Arts degree at the University of Stellenbosch in 2014 and taught Design at the Hugo Naudé Art Centre in Worcester in 2015. She is currently creating art in Cape Town, South Africa.

The Artist as Shaman 2014

My work is the autobiographical visual language of my subconscious. A fleeting moment in time - the midpoint between taking information in, processing it and creating new knowledge.

The work is directly tied to my emotions and does not in any way try to be objective. It is in fact a celebration of subjective truth. It explores ideas around external worlds, to produce new symbols and contribute to the collective conscious.

//eerlik oomblik// (//honest moment//) 2014

my work is an autobiographical visual depiction of my subconscious. it does not try to represent a truth and the viewer should not expect to find any truth in it.

it is rather a fleeting moment in time, the mid-point between taking information in, processing it and producing new knowledge.

the work is directly tied to my emotions and does not in any way try to be objective. it is in fact a celebration of subjective thought.

Deep Down 2013

My autobiographical work reveals personal struggles and hurt. It speaks about emotional pain that I feel I have suffered from during my childhood. It also reveals the order of my upbringing and childhood mixed with my chaotic, irrational life today and coming to terms with the emotions in my head.

My world is not one of order and rationality, but rather the struggle between the surreal chaos of my escapism into my self-created world. It is derived from my subconscious.

All my work is inspired through my triptych 'Three Monarchs for Crucifixion'.

2013

The work’s title as well as its location bears great significance. In both the title and material the work merely presents, a bundle of sticks. This project’s aim is to visually present how a word that once was assigned to something as simple as a bundle of sticks, now refers to and forms part of hate speech against homosexuality.

The work’s location is of great significance, which is a reaction the response of Dylan Lewis’s sculpture, Male-Trans Figure II. A response focused on issues the sculpture suggests with little focus on the sculpture itself.

In both instances this work faggot is a visual gesture to create awareness around the perception and misperception of the impact of words and images that hinders and detracts from the hidden subtleties of the everyday.
